A few days ago Zoella (Zoe Sugg) released a video talking about her Christmas products as part of her beauty collection. I'd normally say I buy at least one thing from each thing she brings out just to give a try and the Two Balmy lip balms are the thing that mainly caught my eye considering all over summer I was loving the Kissy Missy lip balm (and I quietly hope she brings out a orangey one as I feel that would definitely fit in my collection!) I love the ease of tinted lip balms, they're effortless hints of colour for your lips on days where you want to appear as you're making an effort even though the minimal amount has actually gone in!.

I picked it up in Superdrug for £5 which is pretty good considering the Kissy Missy is £3, so you get two for £2.50 each instead of £3 each.

THE PACKAGING

First of all can we just talk about how dreamy this packaging is?! Everything from the box right through to the tins has been thought through so well and made beautifully. The box even has the thoughtful idea of being able to hang it on the Christmas tree for added amazement whilst gifting. The tins are sturdier than the plastic casing which the Kissy Missy features. The colours are lovely and are a representation of the flavours in which the two balms come in. The lace boarder is consistent with many other items and I'd feel like i'm pulling out a high market lip balm whilst pulling this out of my bag on the bus or in the middle of a lecture!

THE BALM ITSELF

The ultimate bane of my life is chapped lips and i'm constantly trying to find new lip balms to help the problem (I'm a balm hoarder!). The smells of both balms are amazing! My favourite is the sweet mint as it reminds me of mint cremes which are my favourite sweet treat! And the vanilla cream one actually reminds me of a Primark lip balm which was my staple a few years ago! The pigmentation of the vanilla cream one is also great, you can put it on light for a slight tint or really build it up to get the in-tin colour. The nude one is also good, but it appears more like a nude gloss which is why it would work more for everyday but I am in love! They're also very hydrating which is good because I guess that's the whole Idea right?

ADDITIONAL POINT

The vanilla creme one works really well with a lip pencil I bought from Rimmel in 'Wine' I think it's part of their 1000 kisses range. I often like wearing just a lip pencil as a slight tint as I feel this is what lasts longer on me, but to protect my lips and to come out with a beautiful berry autumnal colour I mix these two together and it looks amazing!

The Uni Files: Move in day

So seeing as many people will be embarking on their new university adventures in around a month or so I thought I would do a little series of posts called 'The Uni Files' to help many freshers with most things to do with uni life, from cooking to decorating your new room. As I was in this position in just under a year ago I thought it would be ideal to share my own experiences as a way to help calm many nerves in which some people are feeling. This is going to be my final post of this series as it will finalize everything off. Here are a few tips to help you have a (hopefully) smooth move in day and settle those final nerves you have.

//PACKING

In the days counting down to your move in day, double check your packing. If you're missing anything add it in. And if there are things you may not need, chuck em' (like do you really need 5 different trinket boxes because they look pretty?!). This will help you when it comes to unpacking as you don't want to waste valuable socializing time with your new flatmates because you're stuck unpacking 10 different types of hairspray. Also, if you have a long way to travel it will help you have a comfy ride, having your knees up to your chin gets a little boring after the 50th mile.

//OUTFIT

This one sounds a bit stupid, but again with comfort whilst on long journeys it will help if you are wearing something which you are free to move about in and feel comfortable in because you will be doing a lot of unpacking. Also, wear something that shows off your personality, or something which gets people talking. Example outfit, leggings, comfy t-shirt (maybe with an interesting slogan on?) and some trainers.

//ICEBREAKERS

This one will sound really lame and make you feel like you are back in primary school, but think of some questions to ask your fellow flatmates and not just the bog-standard "where are you from?" "what are you studying" etc, something really outside the box. One of my flatmates loved doing would you rather's and he was known for it by the end of the year!

//EXPLORE YOUR SURROUNDINGS

If you have a bit of free time in-between all the unpacking, or you just want to get out of the craziness for a while go for a 5 minute walk around your living quarters. For example, if you're living on campus go have a look where all your classes are. It will make you feel prepared and more at ease.

//IT'S OKAY TO HAVE A TEAR

When I got to Uni, I thought i'd be over the moon to finally have my independence, but considering i'm not really a crier, I balled my eyes out when I saw my parents car pull away because I realized that I would have to look after myself. But after a quick phone call to my friend and a pep talk from her I pulled myself together and went to socialize with my flatties!

Most of all, remember everyone else is in the same boat on this day and some people may not speak to you straight away. Don't take it personally. Most of the socializing begins once the drinks start flowing anyway!

The Uni Files: 10 Questions // Uni Life

So seeing as many people will be embarking on their new university adventures in around a month or so I thought I would do a little series of posts called 'The Uni Files' to help many freshers with most things to do with uni life, from cooking to decorating your new room. As I was in this position in just under a year ago I thought it would be ideal to share my own experiences as a way to help calm many nerves in which some people are feeling. In this post I am going to answer 10 questions about my experiences surrounding my first year of uni. Filled with anecdotes and tips on what (not) to do whilst at uni. Feel free to copy and fill this in as you go along.

1: What university do you study at? Falmouth University

2: What degree you are studying? BA (Hons) Photography

3: Favorite thing about your course? The fact that we have so many amazing facilities free to use on site

4: Least favorite thing about your course?: That there is barely any contact time between myself and the tutors

5: What were you most anxious about when moving in and how did you overcome it?: That I wasn't going to get on with many of the people I lived with. In the end I realized that we were all in the same boat, went in and was myself. (But if you are scared, bring food such as cake to share, it will definitely help!)

6: Favorite experience so far?: Being able to explore myself more independently away from home. I've learned that I absolutely love the sea, and could spend hours in it!.

7: Worst experience so far?: Ending up in an ambulance after thinking it was a good idea to down a bottle of wine. No seriously, don't do it. It wont impress anyone, and you will hate yourself the next day when you have your head down a toilet!

8: Some advice?: Well other than the bottle of wine. BE YOURSELF. If you go into uni with a false persona it will be very difficult to maintain that for three years. If people don't like it, screw them. Also, a helpful tip for freshers week, stock up on fancy dress. It's difficult to do themed nights on a budget. (Jungle, space, sea themes, etc).

9: Do you get homesick? Occasionally, if i'm having a bad day I tend to miss my parents and the feeling of the familiar. However, I overcome this by just ringing them up, or skyping them. It's not the same as them giving you a massive hug, but what are flatmates for?

10: What are you most excited for in the future? Being able to graduate after spending years studying something I love, and hopefully being able to explore more of Cornwall. Whilst experiencing new things.

Beauty love on a budget

I'm not going to lie, having a budget but being a massive lover of all things beauty has been a massive culture shock to me. Gone are the days where I can spend my saved up pennies on makeup I usually don't need, but lust over constantly and now i'm paying for bills and food. It's not all doom and gloom though, here are a few hints and tips on how to give beauty some love on a tight budget.

My first thing would be to say look at budget makeup on the highstreet, there are many brands out there such as MUA, or Makeup Revolution who go completely unheard of because of major drugstore brands such as Rimmel or Revlon. If you're lusting over a certain colour of lipstick check out MUA, they have a selection of great lipstick shades which have an amazing formula which often dupe popular lipstick shades out there on the market. My favourite concealer following the collection lasting perfection one is the MUA hide & conceal in fair and it's an absolute bargain at a £1! Also, their makeup palettes along with Make Up Revolution are some of my favourites, 12 buttery eye shadows which blend beautifully and are usually dupes of the Naked palettes are only £4! However, I would say spend out on your base but you can always cheap it up on the extras.

Secondly, there are loaaaads of brilliant discount makeup sites out there. They sell off either discontinued makeup from certain brands at super cheap prices. My favorite is fragrance direct as they sell of highstreet but also luxe brands for a percentage of the price. They have everything on there from perfumes, to skincare. If you are feeling the need for a splurge have a look on these websites, postage is usually cheap to and you tend to stumble across brands you never knew existed. Also, ebay is a brilliant resource for finding makeup bargains. I recently bought two Korres lipglosses for £2.50 each and Stila lipstick for £3 or £4. It takes a while to root around but it is definitely worth the hunt.

Before I went to uni I decided to stock up on products whenever they were on sale, for example I am a massive lover of the Fudge Urban iced raspberry and vanilla hairspray which is usually around £5.99 a bottle. But superdrug were doing a deal for around £2.62 so I ended up buying 3, and as I don't use hairspray a lot it ended up lasting me nearly the whole year for a similar price tag.

The Uni Files: How to settle in to your new home!

So seeing as many people will be embarking on their new university adventures in around a month or so I thought I would do a little series of posts called 'The Uni Files' to help many freshers with most things to do with uni life, from cooking to decorating your new room. As I was in this position in just under a year ago I thought it would be ideal to share my own experiences as a way to help calm many nerves in which some people are feeling. In this post I'm going to be doing some tips on how you can easily settle into your new accommodation and feel as comfortable as possible.

Step one: Get to know your flatmates ASAP

When I first moved into my flat many of my flatmates were either out with family, or just wondering around campus so initially I only met 3 out of the 7 other people I was sharing with. I went to dinner with my parents and didn't get back until around 9pm and all of them had gone to the SU to get to know each other. Looking back now I wish I had stayed at the flat and gotten to know them sooner as I was then sat awkwardly for an hour whilst they were all laughing about the events over drinks. However, after the awkward hour we all had a few cups of tea (yes, wild for freshers right?) and some cake and just began telling eachother things about ourselves such as music tastes, where we were from, etc and it helped take the ease of the awkwardness. Think of different things you can ask eachother, and try to remember that each of you are all in the same position and are probably just as nervous as eachother so if someone doesn't talk to you for a while it may just mean they are slightly shy, not stuck up!.

Step two: Set your room up or cosy!

I'm going to do a massive blog post on this next week or so as this was my favorite part of the whole experience of looking after myself. Fill it with your favorite pictures, or even mementos that remind you of home. I bought tonnes of fairy lights before I came which made it extra cosy. If you have a favourite candle of a certain scent maybe bring a few of those to jot around the area (if you're aloud candles in your accommodation!) or even scent diffusers. When you first move in to your empty room it will feel very alien to you, so just spend a few hours to make it as homely as possible.

Step three: Get used to your surroundings

As you will be in a brand new place it may be worth a wonder around the local area, take a walk into town, find all the local shops. If you were lucky enough to live on the same place that you studied like me try to find all your classrooms so you feel prepared for your first day. Also get to know your neighbours, I had at least 56 other people living in my block and I think I only knew about 21 of these people, so not even half! Arrange a few block events, even if you just have a little get together in your communal area.

Step four: Talk to someone familiar

On my first night I think I skyped my friend for two hours whilst I was unpacking, I showed her around the flat and it just felt nice to have someone familiar for a few hours, even if it was a more virtual version of them. Skype is free, so if you don't have an account set up I'd definitely recommend getting it before you move away as it is an easy way to keep in touch with loved ones. It also helps you relax as they can also give you advice on how to set up your room, or give you advice on how to approach new people.
